Election Finals Miramar Goes To National

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. The National Party candidate for the Wellington electorate of Miramar, Mr W. L. Young, who had an election night majority of 119 increased his lead to 146 in the final result which was declared tonight. Mr Young displaces the sitting Labour member, Mr W. A. Fox, who was Minister of Marine in the last Labour Government.

The largest majority is the 6660 gained by the new member for the National stronghold of Remuera, Mr D. A. Highet. In 1963 Remuera gave the retiring Speaker of the House (Sir Ronald Algie) a majority of 7001. The smallest majority so far is 78. the margin by which Mr R. M. Barclay won New Plymouth for Labour.
