Clay Tops Poll

(N.Z. Press LONDON. The world heavy-weight boxing champion, Cassius Clay, with five successful title defences thia year, has easily won United Press International’s European poll for the “Sportsman of the Year.” Clay had 232 votes. America’s young champion mile runner, J. Ryun, was second with 143. Third was the American sprinter, T. Smith, on 132, followed by J. Brabham (121), the Portuguese soccer star, Eusebio (112), and R. G. Clarke (97).
