VARIETY SHOW

There was some country, some western and much variety in the country and western variety show presented at the Repertory Theatre last evening. The Caroline Ramblers, who occupied the second half of the programme, obviously enjoyed themselves and spread their enthusiasm to the audience in a variety of numbers. The drummer, D. Dunbar, briefly roused a small audience with “If I Had A Hammer.” He was the outstanding performer and pleased the audience with “Ghost Rider in the Sky.” The Small brothers from Ashburton gave a polished display of yodelling and in one song, “She taught me how to Yodel” showed that they had learnt well. The first half of the programme was well-balanced but too long. Two groups provided a variety of country and western ballads and instrumental numbers. There was a display of country and western dancing, and a mimecomedy group, the Wreckowaires, provided a lively selection of items.
