FIGHT FOR HIS LIFE

Boy Has 180th Operation

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, December 7. “I’m going to get better dad,” a 10-year-old boy, told his father after his 180th operation at Auckland Hospital yesterday. The boy is Ray Marsom, the son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Marsom, of Otahuhu. Nine years and four days ago he swallowed caustic soda and on Monday he underwent his most extensive and critical operation since the accident.

A team of Auckland surgeons successfuly completed an operation to bypass his damaged gullet by replacing it with a piece of bowel. “Although he is fighting a very grave battle at the moment, Ray has the will power to come through and that is the best thing in his favour,” said Mr Marsom.

The hospital tonight reported that Ray was still quite sick, but was showing a slight improvement.
