CARTAGE DEARER

Rise In Rates 1-1} Per Cent

WELLINGTON, December 7. Town carriers are permitted to increase their cartage rates by lj per cent and rural carriers by 1 per cent, as a result of the 2j per cent General Wage Order, states a Transport Department decision released today. An August decision which gave town carriers a 2| per cent increase and rural carriers a 3 per cent increase, consequent on a new drivers’ award, has been replaced with an over-all 4 per cent increase.

The Road Carriers’ Federation, which applied for slightly higher increases after the general wage order, may appeal against the decision to the Transport Charges Appeal Authority.

The new rates ye maximums.
