Mark Against Twain

More than 100 undergraduates at the University of Massachusetts at Boston have petitioned the faculty asking that Mark Twain’s “Huckleberry Finn” be banned because of its racial bias. “The book reinforces prejudice, reinforces the belief that all Negroes shuffle, teat watermelon
and giggle,” said a spokesman for the group, which includes many Negroes.
Two Negro girls walked out of the class recently when the Twain character “Nigger Jim* was mentioned. ’
