The Burnside Bowling Club will open its second green,

i the Davie Green, on Saturday. Increasing membership has necessitated another green. It has taken 12 months to{ construct the green out of an' uneven paddock and it has been the voluntary work of I members which has made the’ new green possible. The green is named after; Mr L. Davie who organised I the working parties. The club expects the greeni to develop to the high stan-i dard of its first green. If it! does it will be due to the! knowledge put into the pre-i paration of the playing sur-l face by the club’s green-1 keeper (Mr A. H. Orchard).' There had been suggestions j that a weed green should be; laid, but finally it was ■ decided to lay a grass green { with an even higher content of chewing fescue than the original green had.

Rubber Green R. Veitch, a member of the Bruno Court Club, Oakland. California, who played in the World Bowls championships at Sydney recently, had a game on the Beckenham Club’s indoor rubber green. He said that it was a new experience for him and one that he thoroughly enjoyed. The club’s championship fours are now entering the third round. From the first two rounds, six skips emerged with unbeaten records. St Albans

Two of the strongest fours in the club’s championships.

.'J. Cogswell and R. Wilkinson, >i met last week. It was a tight .{match with Cogswell winning > 'on an extra end. After 10 i i heads, Wilkinson led 10-9, but ; Cogswell picked up valuable ’ j points to take a one point 1 lead on the fifteenth head. A good three on the twentieth 1 ■! head brough Wilkinson back { I into the picture to be only, one point down and a point' i gained from a toucher | {levelled the scores on the last: | end. { Cogswell, quite calm, made Ino mistake on the extra end. j Ito win the match. His team ■ 1 was Wadsworth. Gainsford [ 1 and Hughes.

Sumner The main interest at the club at the moment is the championship pairs. One match last week, between last season’s finalists, R. Wilkinson and C. Idle, produced some very good bowls. Huston repeated last year's result. Another good match was that between A. E. Church and H. E. Robinson. The game went to the last end, with Robinson wanting five to win. He had five bowls lying between the jack but he failed by a fraction of an inch to push the jack back. In the championship singles W. E. Buckner, J. Palmer and J. Cameron had wins.

The pennants matches have proved quite satisfactory for Sumner as it gained a maximum 26 points in the third round.
