Minimum Rates Increased
Increases in minimum wage rates, ranging from 4jd to 6Jd an hour for men and 2s 6d to 39s 2d a week for women, are contained in the new moulders’ awardThe rates became effective on the first day of the pay week starting on or after November 21.
Hourly rates for jobbing moulders or jobbing core makers are up by 6jd; for first class moulders, die casters and plate moulders, by 6d; and for machine moulders, production core makers and machine core makers, by 4jd. This gives a minimum wage range of 7s 3(d to 8s lid an hour. For female workers, minimum weekly rates now range from £4 12s 6d to £lO 7s 6d, representing an increase of 2s 6d for those under 17, 9s 2d for those aged 17 to 18, 18s 4d for those 18 to 19, 30s for those 19 to 20, 39s 2d for those 20 to 21, and 9s 2d for those over 21.
The award also raises the allowance for employees required to work more than three consecutive afternoon or night shifts outside the prescribed hours, from 5s to 5s 6d for each shift.
