Y.M.C.A. CAMP

17 More Acres

Bought

The Christchurch Young Men’s Christian Association has secured an additional 17 acres for its seven-acre premanent camp site at Wainui valley, Banks Peninsula, at a cost of £6500.

“This is quite a big step forward,” said the general secretary (Mr R. J. O’Kane). “Accommodation cabins will be built on the new land when the money is available. We want to increase the capacity of the camp to 200, and eventually to 250. At present it can take about 120 persons.” Future plans also included a dining and recreation room, and many other facilities. “We have always felt we needed more room for expansion at Wainui, but we did not have it,” Mr O’Kane said. “Previously, expansion would have meant cutting down native trees there. Now we can leave the bush intact—we’re very happy about that.”
