Destroyed By Fire

A bach used as a carpenter’s shop and contents worth several hundred pounds were destroyed by fire in South Brighton last evening. New Brighton volunteer firemen, on two machines and using two hoses, fought the fire in pouring rain and saved a house in front of the bach. The property, at 357 Pine avenue, is owned by Mr S. A. Price.

The wooden, 26ft-by-16ft bach went up in flames. The heat broke windows and scorched woodwork on the back of the brick house. A P-class yacht and sails, and the sail of a 14ft yacht, bicycles, tools, a ping-pong table were included in the contents of the shed. Mr Price and his family tried to save some of the contents but were driven back by dense smoke and then flames.
