A MAORI SOLDIER AND HIS CANOE.—A paratrooper of the 1st Ranger Squadron, New Zealand Special Air Service, in a German-designed 17ft light-weight canoe made of rubber fabric and rubber sheeting that will carry a weight of 1000lb. The canoe breaks into three parts and can be carried on a man’s back or dropped by parachute. It takes about four minutes to assemble. This photograph was taken in Singapore recently when 10 New Zealand paratroopers attended a training course conducted by the Royal Marines.
