Simonsen Hangs On In Feilding Event
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. Simonsen, which was well placed all the way, hung on to win the St. Andrew’s Handicap, the main event on the second day of the Feilding Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday. He held off the faster-finishing Sparkling Maid by a neck, with Matawera running on for third ahead of the pacemaker, Fairweather, Mixed Reception and Grisbi. Tracey took the Colyton Handicap by a length. She raced handy all the way and wca comfortably. Valentino. another always prominent, was a good second ahead of Awaroa and Home On The Range. The Simonsen—Tracey double paid £22 Us 6d for £l. There was a surprise result of the on-course double when Strome and Slip N'Tlckle combined to pay £5317 4s for £l. There were three 5s tickets on the winlnng combination, two held by the one person. Racing was held in fine weather and the track, which was easy at first, later dried out.
