Abandoned Bus
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. After being heckled by his passengers, a Wellington City Council bus driver on Friday pulled to the side of the road, stepped out, and walked off into the night. A woman passenger is believed to have offered to drive the bus to its terminal, but received a vote of no-confidence front her fellow passengers.
Asked about the incident on Saturday the general manager of the City Transport Department
(Mr R. H. Pritchard) said the rights and wrongs of the case still had to be investigated. However, he said the incident had occurred after a difference of opinion over a woman’s fare. The driver, apparently fed up with the heckling of his passengers, left the bus at the side of the road and reported back to his depot. A patrol car and an inspector were sent to the bus, but found that by then it had been abandoned by its passengers.
