NEW FIRE ENGINE

Delivery Next Week The Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board will take delivery of a new fire engine next week. It is one of about 12 similar engines brought to New Zealand in the last year, and the sixth in the board’s area.

The new machine, a Commer Gamecock, has fully chromed cylinders made by Carmichael and Sons, of Worcester, England. The body was made by Roy Chapman, Ltd., of Nelson. The suppliers of the engine, Protectus Equipment (5.1.) Ltd., will also deliver a portable fire pump to the United States Antarctic Support Force headquarters at Harewood on Monday. The pump will later be flown to the Antarctic.

The 24 h.p. pump is capable of delivering 200 gallons a minute and weighs 204 lbs. It has an electric starter and accessories include a plug-in spotlight and battery charger.

Rescue Pilot—The pilot of the helicopter which rescued an injured deer culler in the Murchison area on Wednesday was Mr J. A. T. (“Paddy”) Jones. Mr J. Reid, who was wrongly named as the pilot in Thursday’s issue of “The Press,” is managing director of the company which owns the helicopter.
