To Help Farmers

The Meat Division of the Department of Agriculture is to provide an information service for farmers. Dr. H H. Huss, a Department of Agriculture veterinarian at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s Belfast works, told young farmers attending the national lamb cuts competition of the New Zealand Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs this week that on request, and provided farmers specified the type of information they wanted, the department would report on their stock sent in for slaughter. Dr. Huss indicated that these reports might deal with such things as internal parasites or evidence of a mineral deficiency. Dr. Huss said that it was felt that they might be able to help a little in intensifying production.

He said that their role was not just that of policemen going round knocking back farmers’ stock. They had a concern about saving meat for the market In their job he said they inspected all iambs both before and after slaughter.
