SCOUTS’ CAMP
Two hundred and fifty scouts and scouters from Canterbury are camping at McGregors Ford, 20 miles south of Christchurch, during the week-end.
The scouts will compete for achievement awards. Each troop which reaches the set standard will receive an achievement badge and the winning troop will receive a flag. The course began yesterday with the opening of the camp by the area commissioner (Mr F. A. Stark). The scouts set up a chapel, kitchens and toilets. In the evening each troop cooked a meal in tinfoil as part of the competitions.
Today 500 clubs will attend the camp and 200 to 300 parents will watch the competitions. In the evening there will be a camp fire and a sing-song. A cooking competition tomorrow morning has a prize for the best cooked meal and another for the best served meal.
