CONTROL OF HUTS
Concern By Alpine Chib The New Zealand Alpine Club is to make representations to the National Parks Boards about the control of huts in national parks and built by the boards with funds given by the clubs. At its executive meeting in Christchurch on Saturday, the committee also decided to suggest to the National Park Boards that they consider increasing the wilderness areas in the parks. (Wilderness areas are those In which no development takes place). The committee said that such areas were becoming all too few: such areas, where parties must be self-reliant and selfcontained, were most important to New Zealand mountaineering. The committee agreed that the club must intensify its efforts in instruction and mountain safety. It was mentioned that a record number of Australians about 65 would this year take part in the club’s mountain climbing courses run specially for Australians. r
