LYTTELTON PROBLEM

Double-Parking Concerns

Double-parking is causing concern in Lyttelton, the traffic officer (Mr D. W. Simpson) told the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening. In his report Traffic Officer Simpson said the practice of double-parking had developed over the years, and daily foot patrols had been maintained during October in an effort to eliminate it

However, there did not appear to be the same co-oper-ation from motorists as there was with the 30-minute parking restriction, and to stop the practice it would be necessary to prosecute offenders. During October 65 traffic offence notices had been issued, 20 of them for parking offences, and 15 for no warrant of fitness. Thirtyeight verbal warnings had been issued. Three heavy vehicles had been weighed and all were found to be overloaded.
