SOFTBALL LESSONS

N.Z. Learn From U.S. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The New Zealanders had learnt a lot from the Americans “in basic playing and throwing techniques,” according to the captain of the New Zealand softball team, D. McKercher, when he returned to Wellington yesterday from the world softball tournament in Mexico City. America won the tournament and New Zealand was third, “but we think we were second,” McKercher said. New Zealand could have beaten Mexico, which was placed second, if it had had an opportunity to play Mexico when the top four teams were found, he added. Mexico City’s altitude had had “a tremendous effect” on the New Zealand team in the first few days.
