SHOOTING HAT-TRICK
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Three of the five titles at the South Island trap shooting championships, held in Invercargill at the week-end, were won by A. J. C. Donald, president of the Southland Gun Club. Donald's performance has not been equalled in the history of trap shooting at National, island or provincial level. He won the skeet championship after a marathon shoot-off with J. McKenzie (Seaward Downs). E ,H. Jones (Moa Creek) was third. Next, Donald took the single barrel championship with 24 breaks out of a possible 25. A. S. Copland (St. Andrews) was second after a shoot-off with A. T. Kemp (Palmerston), N. A. Havill (Kowhitirangi) and E. A. Pirie (Oteramika) each had shot 23. Donald completed the hattrick when he beat a field of 65 in the double rise championship. His score of 19 out of a possible 20 was one better than the runner-up, Jones. The clay sparrow championship was won by New Zealand’s international representative, L. W. Kerr (Rangiora), after a shoot-off with R. Stowell (St. Andrews). In the single rise, Kerr, A. Brown (Lauder, Otago), A. W. H, Walker (Hakataramea), P. Hatman (Studholme Junction). R, G. Brown (Ashburton) and E. R. Pirie (Oteramika) shot possibles, and the first miss out shoot-off went to the thirty-first target before Walker took the title. Brown finished second and Pirie third.
The special high gun trophy for the top aggregate over the five championships was won by Donald.
