Hotels Full With two major racing meetings being held in Christchurch within four days of each other, hotel accommodation is at a premium. Although extra hotel accommodation has been provided since last year, it is practically impossible to obtain rooms during the next five days. The National Airways Corporation is providing several charter flights for racegoers in other centres. Today there will be a charter flight from Invercargill for the New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton. On Tuesday, the day of the New Zealand Trotting Cup meeting at Addington, the corporation will run five Charter flights—three from Invercargill, and one each from Wanganui and Palmerston North. Sealing Of Roads The Wairewa County Council yesterday accepted tenders for sealing on the Kaituna Valley road and the Kinloch road. The Isaac Construction Company, Ltd., won contracts for both jobs. It will seal two miles of the Kaituna road for £2802 and six-tenths of a mile of the Kinloch road for £Bl9.

Light Rain The weather in Christchurch yesterday was cloudy and cool, and a moderate to fresh north-easterly wind brought light rain to the city about midday. The maximum temperature recorded at Harewood was 51 degrees at midday, and at 5 a.m. the minimum temperature of 43 degrees was recorded. At 6 a.m. the temperature was 46 degrees, and it rose to 51 degrees at 9 a.m. The temperature was 50 degrees at 3 p.m. The Botanic Gardens recorded the same temperatures at 9 a.m., noon, and 3 p.m. The Government Life building gauge read 53 degrees at 4.30 p.m.

Fishing Rivers Conditions in the fishing rivers as reported by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society yesterday morning were: Waiau discoloured, Hurunui slightly discoloured, Waimakariri dirty at gorge and mouth, Selwyn clear and fishable, Rakaia dirty at gorge and slightly discoloured at mouth.
