FRIGATE’S VISIT

Leander To Re Open To Public H.M.S. Leander, a frigate, will arrive at Lyttelton at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. During the visit the ship’s company of 250 will be entertained by the Canterbury branch of the Navy League, with a dance for 150 ratings, a cocktail party for officers, bus trips to scenic areas, and a social at H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus. The ship’s company will entertain 40 orphans on Thursday afternoon. Parties from the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve and the sea cadets will be conducted through the ship, which will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on November 12 and 13. The ship’s Wasp helicopter will fly over Christchurch about 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday and will remain at Wigram during the visit. An officer from H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus, Lieutenant J. B. Woods, of Christchurch, will join the ship for the two weeks it is in New Zealand The ship will sail at 8 a.m. on November 14 for Bluff.
