CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK

Exhibition Abandoned The children’s book week exhibition in Christchurch will be discontinued. This decision has been made by the committee which will decide early next year whether it should dissolve. The chairman (Mr R. F. Armstrong) said that needs had changed. The teachers’ organisations. Library Association, and Booksellers’ Association (principal groups among a large number of the committee) recognised that the exhibition no longer reached a large section of the city population. Through the efforts of school committees and parents, most schools were now provided with books in much better quantity and quality. Booksellers regularly featured books suitable for children. The need for the exhibition was therefore not as great as in the many earlier years when it was held. Next year the Children’s Book Week Committee would decided whether to remain in existence as liaison among all interested parties.
