MORE SHOT IN INDIA
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) HYDERABAD, November 2. Police gunfire killed two people in fresh disturbances yesterday at the coastal town of Visakhapatnam, according to an official report received in Hyderabad.
The report said the shooting started in a clash near the town’s post office, no further details were given. Demonstrators rioted on Monday at Vijayawada, a rail junction between Madras and Calcutta on the bay of Bengal, and Guntur, about 200 miles south-west. The demonstrators, mostly students, are agitating for location of India’s fifth steel plant at Vizakhapatnam. At Vijayawada, students attacked the railroad and postal stations and then mobbed the police station. The police fired, killing four and wounding 18, then were forced to retreat. Several police were also hurt.
A mob also attacked a police station at Guntur and more than 15 were injured when police opened fire. The town was reported quiet today after a night in which the demonstrators roamed the streets, looting and burning shops.
