NZ MAIZE PLANT
Report Likely Soon "The Press" Spedol Service AUCKLAND. Oct. 31. The final report on the proposed establishment of a £1 million maixe-processing industry is expected to arrive in New Zealand soon. The report is being prepared by a Dutch firm and if the project is approved the plant will be set up in the Gisborne area. The scheme eould save New Zealand up to £750,000 a year in overseas funds—the cost of importing nearly 17,000 tons of maize products. Talks on the project have been held between the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall) and executives of William H. Terry and Company, Ltd., of Wellington, which represents the Dutch firm of Amylo Chemie. Mr W. H. Terry and Mr F. A. Coker, a director, have also discussed the proposal with Mrs E. Tombleson, M.P. for Gisborne, who first suggested the idea five years ago. It is expected that when all details have been assembled in the final report, Mr M. G. Groen, managing-director of Amylo Chemie, will come to New Zealand to make an inspection. The Gisborne-East Coast district already supplies 85 per cent of New Zealand with maize products.
