(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 31. Counsel for the Radio Hauraki staff. Mr R. I. Maclaren, today denied that he had spoken to the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Scott) about the Minister being served with a subpoena to appear as a defence witness in the Magistrate's Court at Auckland on Wednesday. Eleven men, directors and staff of Radio Hauraki, have been remanded to appear on Wednesday on charges which arose from a bid to take the Tiri from the Western Viaduct lighter basin on October 23. All have pleaded not guilty.
“The only person I haven spoken to is the Crown Solicitor of Auckland, Mr D. S. Morris,” said Mr Maclaren. He declined to comment further on the possibility of a subpoena being served on Mr Scott. Mr Scott said In Auckland on Saturday that be had not actually received a subpoena, but he would appear in Court voluntarily, anyway. He said Ministers had some protection 10 days before a Parliamentary session opened and 10 days after it ended, but that would not make any difference to him.
