Bishop Opens Wing At College

Although new classrooms did not necessarily make a good school, a dedicated staff deserved the best facilities, the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt, Bishop of Christchurch and warden of the St Margaret’s College, said yesterday when he officially opened the Stephanie Young wing at the school.

More than 200 parents and friends of the school inspected the two-storey concrete block wing after the opening.

June 17 by the former Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. A. K. Warren), was named after the woman who was headmistress of the school from 1931 to 1949. Bishop Pyatt said he was glad to be associated with the opening and especially delighted that Mrs Young had been able to attend. “We must make every effort to expand the school still further,” Bishop Pyatt said. "There is an ever-growing demand, and a larger school will enable the staff to achieve a better balanced education. “Good schools are the result of the staff and the basic philosophy behind the teaching.
