Dalvui Fit
•‘The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. Dalvui, Humber, Shut and the two-year-olds, Belted Earl and Miss Mink, were impressive in their trials at Hastings yesterday. Dalvui, Humber and Shut will race on Saturday and the other two will compete on the later days of the meeting. Conditions were ideal, with the plough slightly holding after rain during the night. On the plough Dalvui (J. T. Anderson), which will be ridden in the Wainui Handicap by K. S. Cullen, ran six furlongs with Shut (A. T. Jones) in Imin 21sec, the last three furlongs in 40 sec. Both horses must appeal for the Wainui Handicap, though at a mile, Dalvui might be the better prospect. Humber (A. T. Jones) and Royal Ransom (J. T. Anderson), which will run in the Glen Hurdles, took Imin 36sec for seven furlongs, the last three in 41sec. Humber is fit and could be hard to beat. No rider has been engaged for either Humber or Royal Ransom. Belter Earl (McQuilkin) sprinted three furlongs in 36sec. This was a fast sprint.
On the course proper Miss Mink (McQuilkin) and Taina (Howell) ran three in 37 4-ssec, with the trestles well over the distance.
Miss Mink and Belted Earl, which finished second and third to Fair Alex at Masterton last week, are promising and could be hard to beat on the later days at Trentham.
