Covering Of Vehicles

The Automobile Association was concerned at coal and similar substances being carried uncovered, causing a nuisance to following drivers, said a letter from the Commissioner of Transport (Mr R. J. Polaschek) received by the Christchurch Metropolitan Road-Safety Committee.

The commissioner explained that the association felt that an amendment to Regulation 22 of the 1956 Traffic Regulations and better enforcement of the regulations could improve the position. The association considered the amendment should not make it mandatory for all loads to be covered. The Christchurch committee supported the suggested amendment.
