The New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Ltd.

34th Year Of Operation

"I am pleased to once again report a successful year's trading in all branches of your Company’s operation," said Mr W. A. Phillips, Chairman of Directors at the Annual Meeting of the Company, attended by some 280 shareholders. The Chairman went on to state that including the Company's wholly owned subsidiaries, turnover exceeded that of the previous year by £228,000 for a total of £6,130,000. The Subscribed Capital of the Company now stood at £468,000 which was paid up to £197,000 while the Company's Shareholders' Funds had increased to £1,338,500. Continuing his remarks, the Chairman stated that while the increasing volume of whole milk collected by tankers for drying will considerably reduce the number of farm units for fattening pigs, there are indications that because the local market

is both firmer and higher than ever before in the history of the industry, the profit incentive thus afforded will ensure an adequate supply from new piggeries and farms still in production, to satisfy local needs.

In this assumption. it should be borne in mind that until last year, as much as 3000 tons of pigmeat had been exported from this country, and that even now there is still available a very large volume of factory milk residue. suitable for pig food, which is going to waste. On these considerations. Mr Phillips appealed to shareholders to safeguard this reliable source of profitable income to the dairy industry by utilising the means at their disposal to ensure that the production of pigmeat is maintained on a level adequate to meet growing local consumption of both the raw and manufactured product. —P.B.A.
