Courses For Doctors

Money raised through a public appeal by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons was being used to run courses for young doctors in Auckland and Dunedin, said a spokesman for the college in Christchurch yesterday. The New Zealand branch of the college is holding its annual meeting in the city, and about 70 members from throughout New Zealand are attending. The courses were being run for fourth-year students preparing for their final examinations, the spokesman said. The advantage to New Zealand was that being trained here, the surgeons were more likely to stay and work here. There were plans to extend the course to other centres in the future. The two-day meeting, concerned mainly with the latest developments in the surgeons’ work, will conclude today.
