HIGHER STAKES

Hororata Plan The success of the Hororata Racing Club’s move to race at Riccarton is reflected in the club’s programme for Its annual meeting in December. Stakes for the club’s second meeting at Riccarton have been increased from £3325 to £3685. The Hororata Cup is replaced this year by the Gordons Gin Handicap, and it is worth £l2OO, which includes a subsidy of £lOO from the distillery firm. On moving to Riccarton last year the Hororata club increased the cup stake to make it a £lOOO race.

The open sprint this year will be worth £625, an increase of £lOO, and there have also been increases to other races on the programme.

“We have high hopes of making more increases to have no race worth less than £400,” the Hororata secretary, Mr P. J. Byrne, said yesterday.
