Boy Shot By Police (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAN FRANCISCO, September 28. Racial violence broke out in two Negro suburbs last night after the police shot a 16-year-old Negro boy. Governor Edmund Brown early today called out 2000 National Guardsmen. Bands of Negroes, estimated in the hundreds, smashed windows, set fires and threw Molotov cocktails in the Hunters Point shipyard area. Looting was reported in the Fillmore district to the northwest.

The violence came during a hot September night It was still in the high 60s at midnight when the Governor ordered the National Guard troops to duty. Hundreds of San Francisco police and California highway patrolmen patrolled streets in the two suburbs, armed with shotguns and teargas.

Day of Mourning.—Next Friday, first anniversary of the abortive coup in Djakarta, will be a day of national mourning, Djakarta Radio said. It called for prayers for the souls of those who died in the coup.—Singapore, September 28.
