ACCIDENTAL SHOT

Teller Fired Pistol (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 28. A shot fired accidentally by a bank teller smashed a plateglass window, ricocheted across a street and struck the wall of the post office in the main shopping centre at Hawera at 8.45 a.m. today. No-one was hurt. The shot was fired from a pistol held by a teller in the Commercial Bank of Australia in Princess street as money was being transferred from the bank strongroom to the teller’s drawer. It was deflected by the plateglass window on to the footpath and ricocheted across the road, struck the wall of the new post office building and fell on the road. The police have taken no action. The bank’s manager, Mr H. W. Innis-Jones, said the matter was being referred to the bank’s head office.
