“Fabian Dreams”

Sir, —Isabelle C, Brown’s remarks concerning our Welfare State and its relation to the “free-enterprise” policy of the present Government are astounding. Of course the welfare legislation is socialist rule and certainly no “Fabian dream.” The conservative New Zealand governments, over 17 years, have strongly condemned socialism in any form, but hypocritically incorporated Labour’s socialist policy into its own privateenterprise policy, merely to become the Government of the country. The people like and demand this socialism. I would like the American visitor, Mrs Schuyler, to know that a fuller socialist rule would have saved the country from the big financial mess we are now experiencing.—Yours, etc. TRUTH WILL OUT.
