VICEREGAL TOUR
Overland Trip To Chch. The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) and Lady Fergusson will visit Marlborough and North . Canterbury next month. Their tour of Marlborough will begin from Blenheim at 9.15 a.m. on Monday, October 10. Stops will be made at Seddon at 9.45 a.m., Grassmere at 10.55 a.m., and Ward at 11.45 a.m. After lunching in the Kekerengu district, they will arrive at Clarence bridge at 2.50 p.m. and have tea with local residents. They are due at Kaikoura about 4.30 p.m., and will spend the night there. On Tuesday, their Excellencies will visit the Kaikoura Hospital before being given a civic reception by the Kaikoura County Council. Afterwards. they will have tea with representative citizens before leaving at 11.30 a.m. for Cheviot. They will stop at Oaro at 11.50 a.m., Conway Flat at 2.30 p.m.. and Parnassus at 3.25 p.m. They are due at Cheviot at 4.20 p.m. to stay the night. On Wednesday, their Excellencies have engagements in Cheviot until 10.30 a.m., when they will leave for Christchurch. Stops will be made at Greta Valley at 11 a.m.. Scargill at 11.30 a.m., and Waiau.
The Governor-General and Lady Fergusson are expected to arrive in Christchurch at 5.30 p.m. They will be the guests of the University of Canterbury at dinner before a ceremony at 8.15 p.m. at which the honorary degree of doctor of laws will be conferred on Sir Bernard Fergusson.
Their Excellencies will leave Christchurch by Royal New Zealand Air Force Dakota about 9.45 a.m. on Thursday for Wellington.
