Leg Broken In Crash

fN.Z. Press Association*

NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 20. A topdressing pilot, employed by Rural Aviation, Ltd., escaped from his wrecked aircraft with a broken leg when the plane crashed into a hill near Porangahau, Hawke’s Bay, today. The pilot, Mr D. Carthy, aged 25, of Waipukurau, failed to return from a spraying trip on the coast, 30 miles south-east of Waipukurau, and half an hour later the pilot in another aircraft saw the crashed Cessna on a hillside. He landed, and with the help of a farmer, rescued Mr Carthy, who was taken to Waipukurau Hospital.
