Y.M.C.A. TO GO SOON
Work On New Building The Christchurch Y.M.C.A. would vacate its premises at 103 Cambridge terrace in about three months, the acting general-secretary (Mr D. M. Buist) said yesterday. Mr Buist said that negotiations with the Crown had recently been completed. This would affect the season’s closing dates. Construction of a new gymnasium and youth centre in Hereford street. Rolleston avenue and Cashel street is under way. Mr Buist expects it will be ready for use early next year. Renovations to the existing accommodation building have begun and in late November the Y.M.C.A. residential section will shift to this site. Sleeping and dining facilities ■will be available for about 70.
Youngest President—The Aberdeen Angus Association has elected as the youngest president in its history, Mr C. E. Nairn, of Waipawa Hawke’s Bay He is 44. Offi cers elected were:—Vice-presi-dent Mr J. B Hickman (Seddon): councillors, Messrs H F Saunders (Tirau). M. C McKinnon (Taumaranui), W. T. Powdrell (Wairoa).
