DISMOUNTED POLICE

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) REGINA (Saskatchewan), September 19.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police no longer are a mounted police force. Horses used to train the Mounties were sold at auction during the week-end and the last equestrian class graduated on Friday. Emphasis will now be placed on academic and physical training. The Mayor of Regina (Mr H. Baker) and National Opposition Leader (Mr Diefenbaker) petitioned the Federal Government to save the mounted division, but to no avail.

It prompted the disgruntled Mayor to say: “I suppose now they’ll call them the Royal Canadian Motor Police.”
