DECIMALS

The 1966 G.H.B. annual conference will be the last one before Decimal Currency Day in July, 1967. Because of this, one of the main topics for discussion will be the problems involved in the changeover for shopkeepers, and a talk on decimal currency will be given to the conference by Mr A. Alexander, personiiel manager of Hay’s, Ltd-, Christchurch. Mr Alexander will speak about the effect on retail grocers of the changeover, and the problems they are likely to encounter.

Each of the 13 G.H.B. centres will plan and run its own decimal currency training programme. In the Cantershopkeepers of the changeover to decimal currency. G.H.B. is now in the process of preparing various aids, such as percentage conversion charts for working out margins of profit in decimal currency, for its members. The practical training programme will be carried out with the co-operation and assistance of cash register and adding machine companies, who will provide machines for the practical instruction of grocers. There is also a possibility that a quantity of Australian decimal currency will be obtained to give grocers the experience of actually handling it.
