Church Ritual
Sir, —It is generally agreed that religion is a difficult subject for debate. It can, however, be said that “Finder”
is wrong in assuming that what is formal is inadequate or insincere. A formal and precise approach to the commandments can be just as binding as anything “Finder” may have in mind. My contention is that psychology should be used to supplement revelation for the interpretation of natural or divine law. —Yours, etc., T. M. SHAW. Westport, September 15, 1966.
Sir, —Our secular society has much to answer for. Religious subjects are taboo in many circles, and people are left with questions in their minds that it would embarrass many a minister to answer. The essential thing is to love God, to seek His forgiveness for all our wrongdoing, and with His help, to serve Him in every way we can. To read the Gospels and the Epistles in a completely unbiased way is to find out all we need to know. Many leaders today are altogether too learned.— Yours, etc., SIMPLE FAITH. September 14, 1966. [This correspondence is now closed. —Ed., “The Press.”)
