OPENING OF CABLEWAY

Ceremony This Week The Brian Morrison memorial cableway across the Otira river at Aickens will be formally opened and handed over to the Arthur’s Pass National Park Board at a ceremony in the Lands and Survey Department building on Friday at 5 p.m. About 40 invitations have been sent to persons connected with the project. Mr Morrison was killed in a car accident near Tekapo in 1962. Formerly of Wellington, he was a civil engineer with the Christchurch City Council at the time of his death. Those invited to the function on Friday include members of the park board and rangers, and Mr Morrison's father, Mr W. G. Morrison, a consulting engineer, of Wellington. Materials for the cableway cost more than £BOO, and all labour was given voluntarily. The cableway provides a safe crossing of the Otira river for parties coming down either the Taramakau or Deception rivers.
