Dispensation For Barbers
(From Our Own Reporter)
WELLINGTON, Sept. 12. An order dispensing with an inquiry into the prices charged for men's hair-cuts in Canterbury and Westland is published in the Gazette today. This disposes of the difficulty which arose at its quarterly general meeting on September 8 last year, when the Can-
terbury and Westland Hairdressers' and Tobacconists' Association carried a resolution recommending certain prices for hair-cutting. The Examiner of the Trade Practices and Prices Commission investigated the matter, and arranged conciliation proceedings. As a result, the resolution was rescinded, and it was agreed that in future, the policy of the association would not be to “decide.
recommend or influence” prices.
The commission then exercised its discretion under the act to dispense with an inquiry. The association is bound to refrain from reviving the agreements in any form. Its members “shall individually determine their prices for hair-cutting or hairdressing services without reference to or consultation with any other person or persons."
