Low Temperature The lowest temperature for an American base in Antarctica was recently recorded at the Plateau station in Queen Maud Land. It is minus 125.8 degrees. The Antarctic record is minus 127 degrees, registered at the Russian Vostok station. About two months ago a temperature of minus 116 degrees was registered at the Plateau station. Gift Of Blood Canterbury University students will give 400 pints of blood to the Blood Transfusion Service this week. It will be the first time they have given en masse to the service. The mobile transfusion unit will be set up at the university in the city, and the donations will be taken tomorrow and on Thursday. The secretary of the service (Mr A. T. Sindlen) said that the blood bank in the city would be closed for the two days. The mass donation would give a tremendous boost to supplies. The Botanic Gardens recorded a tempera ture of 54 degrees at 3 p.m., and the temperature gauge on the Government Life building showed 58 degrees at 4.30 p.m.
