Narrower Moves On Steadier Market

Moves were narrower on a steadier market yesterday as rises shaded falls for the first time in two weeks. Key stocks just about held in balance. Turn-overs were moderately good, and the range was slightly wider.

Among the rises New Zealand Refrigerating advanced 3d more to 13s and Waitaki Farmers’ 3d to 16s 6d. KP.G. notes moved up 3d in line with recent firming by the shares which held steady at 6s Id. A. and T. Burt, Mason Brothers, Metters, New Zealand Refining, and Wilson Cement each picked up 3d.

Feltex at 32s 6d and Mosgiel notes at 10s 9d each lost 6d. General Foods, J. Wattie, Wilson and Horton, and Winstone declined further. Turn-over on the Christchurch exchange edged back; trading in industrials and retailers slackened, but there was interest in breweries, frozen meats, and insurances.
