SCHOOLS’ BASKETBALL Former Champions Have Narrow Wins

The three previous holders of the South Island inter-secondary schools basketball title came through the first two rounds undefeated yesterday.

However, all three —Waimea College (Nelson), Otago G.H.S. and Southland G.H.S. met strong opposition. The holder, Waimea, seemed unaccustomed to the wet conditions and defeated Gore H.S. only 23-22. Southland defeated Christchurch G.H.S. by four points, and Otago struggled to beat Rangiora H.S., 24-23. The tournament is divided into eight sections and section play will continue until Thursday.
