CONGRESS RULING

No 6 Walking Advertising’ (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter f BUDAPEST. An Australian proposal for stricter regulations against advertising by athletes was passed unanimously at the congress of the International Amateur Athletics Federation in Budapest on Monday. After Mr A. Hodsdon, the Australian delegate, had complained that some athletes were “walking advertisements,” it was agreed that, in future, athletes must wear plain numbers on their vest, with no lettering or advertising material. Mr Hodsdon also appealed for stricter investigation by countries of athletic “scholarships.” The Australians withdrew a motion asking for bigger out-of-pocket expenses after a canvass of delegates showed it would be defeated.

The congress decided to ohld European championships every two years intsead of four.
