PROTECTING BUYERS
Govt View Of Hire-Purchase (N.Z. Press Association' WELLINGTON, Sept. 5. The Acting-Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) said today that the Government’s proposed legislation on hire-purchase agreements would include a “cooling-off” period to safeguard the customer. He said the Government had already received an interim report on door-to-door selling, but it had not yet received a full report on hirepurchase.
"We are planning to introduce legislation, if it is ready, this session,” he said. The Government had already made provision for a “cooling-off” period of a “few days” under which a prospective customer would have time to reconsider making a purchase from a door-to-door salesman, even if he had signed an agreement. The legislation would be based on British legislation.
