BUDAPEST TRIAL

U.S. Students Charged

GV.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright)

BUDAPEST, August 29.

Two young brothers from California will go on trial here tomorrow, charged with publicly committing sedition by over-painting an antiAmerican placard.

John and Michael Savko. aged 25 and 23. were arrested on June 30 after Hungarian passers-by said they saw them obliterate United States insignia on a picture of a plane dropping bombs on a Vietnamese mother and child, and replace it with a Soviet star. The offence they are charged with carries a prison sentence of two to eight years, but the Central District Court is expected to be lenient on the ground that only three or four people saw the alleged incident.

One of the spectators reported to the police. The brothers, both students visiting Hungary as tourists, were allowed to inform the United States Legation by letter about a week after their arrest, and saw the United States Consul earlier this month.
