£2277 Profit For Year
The Ashburton Trotting Club had enjoyed its most successful year ever, the retiring president (Mr J. Cocks) told the annual meeting of the club yesterday.'
“Stakes were increased to £23,830 and were a record for the club. Likewise, the totalisator turn-over of £261,040 on-course and £245,180 offcourse, a combined increase of £46,738, was also a record,” he said. “The final profit for the year was £2277.” Mr Cocks, a member of the club's committee for 28 years and vice-president for several years, was elected a life member.

Cardigan Bay Favourite (N Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK. Cardigan Bay. the New Zea-land-bred record holder, heads a list of five pacers entered for the 25,000-dollar Billy Direct Free-for-all at Yonkers Raceway tomorrow. Cardigan Bay, which established the track record for one mile of Imin 58 l-ssec in 1964, is listed as the 6-5 favourite in the field, which also includes Murdock Hanover, Rivaltime, Tactile and Gee Lee Hanover. Because of the small field and the prospect of a gigantic minus pool, Yonkers Raceway was granted permission from the New York State Harness Racing Commission to hold win betting only on the race.
Late Dividend Payments Late dividends from the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s national meeting will be payable at Addington Raceway on Saturday evening at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring meeting. Dividends will be payable between 5.45 p.m. and the closing of the totalisator for the fourth race about 7.50 p.m. at the main pay-out booth near the members’ turnstile. Gold Boots In Bracket Gold Boots in now being trained at Belfast by C. S. Donald and will be bracketed with Indecision and Lusty Lad in the H. E. Goggin Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring meeting at Addington Raceway on Saturday. Extra Training On Saturday Trainers in the MidCanterbury area have been unable to work their horses in the last 10 days because of bad weather. The track at Addington Raceway will be open until 4.30 p.m. on Saturday, before the start of the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring meeting, so that outside trainers may work horses.
